Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

History has helped today's children see each other in a color-blind way. My students are shocked when they hear stories of the civil rights movement and racism. It is important for them to understand the history and meaning of the civil rights movement.

We are a Northern California elementary school of 500 students that has great diversity.

Our school perfectly reflects our society's diversity and can be a role model for students all over the country. Our students are very bright, creative and have great senses of humor. They love technology and sports and our school wants to give them every opportunity to succeed.

My Project

I am requesting civil rights and diversity books for kids, an Apple iPad and smart cover, and a camera connection kit. The iPad is a fantastic tool to help kids n the classroom with just about anything. These items will help my students research, understand and create projects about civil rights and diversity. We can download videos from iTunes and do research on the Internet about the civil rights movement and show them to small groups in the class. My other idea was to have students interview family members and put together a video about their experiences with diversity and civil rights. They could bring family members to school or take a camera home so our class could make a slide show about diversity using iphoto or imovie. The possibilities are very exciting.

The possibilities with an iPad and the books I requested are endless.

Kids today are experiencing Marting Luther King's dream of diversity and this project will help them understand why to keep it alive.
