My students need two Ipads and two Ipad covers to use for a literacy center.

My Students

In my early childhood class we learn through play and hands on activities. We have fun each and every day. I want my kids to develop a love for reading even if they can't read yet. I want them to associate that letters equal words and words equal stories and stories equal adventure and fun.

In my class I have 20 wonderful and bright Pre-Kindergartners.

They are 15 boys and 5 girls so we are a rowdy bunch. Our school is in a very poor rural town and funding is limited. Our school is like a family and you can feel that when you walk in. We are all here for the kids. Our teachers are always in front of their doors to greet their students every morning. Our administration loves to help us but they can only do so much. I want the very best for my students. I am so excited to be teaching this wonderful young minds that are so ready to learn.

My Project

My students will use the IPads every day at a literacy center. They will use them to listen to books being read. Not only will they listen to them they will also see the words being highlighted as they are read. We do 30 minute centers every day and each group rotates. Every student will have an opportunity to work at the IPads. I want them to learn to love to read even if they can't yet. At an early age is where you spark that fire for learning. Using these IPads they will learn to associate letters and words. They will learn print awareness and they will also learn to follow directions. These are just a few objectives that I hope to achieve with these. I also want to pull them in and use them for math too.

My project will bring modern technology to my classroom.

It will also let my students have an early exposure to reading and literature. There are plenty of places that my students can pick a book and have it read to them online. This will let my students have choice over what stories they read. It will also develop their taste in books. Reading is everything and this will get them a head start on reading.
