Mrs. Edri from Far Rockaway NY is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a Samsung ChromeBook Laptop and an HP ProBook Laptop to access educational apps, software and websites, plus they need headsets to prevent classroom distraction.

On the evening of October 29th, my students and I lost our homes, school, and community with the passing of one tide as Hurricane Sandy devastated our community with of a ten foot wall of rushing water. Although we have been displaced from our school and our homes, we are Stronger than Sandy!
My kindergarten students and I survived without heat, hot water, and electricity in very cold temperatures for about a month.
I, myself, lost countless belongings, school supplies, and a car as my house was flooded with 8'2" of the Atlantic Ocean. Our classroom has been moved to a temporary school, forty minutes away while our school is being repaired. We have done a superb job of re-creating our "old" classroom here in our temporary school but we need laptop computers. My students do not have access to a single computer in the classroom! My kindergarten students are part of an inclusive classroom in which students with special needs (learning disability, speech impairment, and autism) and general education students learn side by side in the same classroom. In this setting, children learn to celebrate their differences in a positive atmosphere. Each student is unique in personality and needs and I strive to create instruction that meets the needs of all of my diverse learners!
My students do not have access to a single computer during the school day and the majority of my high poverty students do not have a computer at home either! They are technologically deprived. We need laptop computers! With the Samsung Chromebook they could learn to use a mousepad, point and click, use educational websites and have access to countless educational apps. The HP Probook has a CD/DVD drive to access software from our math, reading and phonics programs that would address the needs of my diverse learners. Also, I would be able to use the laptops to project visual aids onto the projector screen! Most importantly, the laptops are desperately needed to provide access to SESIS, our online special education information system, where I must create IEP's for each special needs student. The multimedia headsets will allow the students to enjoy the full auditory capabilities of these laptops without distracting the class.
We have been displaced from our classroom for two months due to Hurricane Sandy!
We have made the best of our temporary class but desperately need laptop computers to bring my special needs students into the age of technology so that they can become "College and Career Ready"! Donations to this request will strengthen instruction and enhance learning opportunities across all curriculum areas. Thank you for considering my technology project.
