My Students
What happens to our body when we exercise? How do I make my heart and lungs stronger and more efficient? What can I do if I want to strengthen my leg muscles so I can jump higher and run faster? I want to help students have a better understanding of the way our body systems respond to exercise.
The students at our school are from various socioeconomic backgrounds and have varied levels of participation in health-enhancing physical activities during school and afterward.
They enjoy participating in physical education class, but lack formal health education lessons that delve into the mechanics of the human body as it relates to physical activity and focused exercise.
My Project
You could help to positively influence the health and well-being of hundreds of students by providing the materials and equipment necessary to teach an engaging and active unit on the positive effects of exercise on the human body. This grant will allow students to touch and interact with the diagrams and replicas of the organs and body systems used in exercise. It will also allow students an opportunity to practice more track and field events and classroom activities when weather limits options for exercise during inclement recess.
Students need to make real-world connections to exercise and health for the duration of their lives.
It is easy to be involved in organized sports and activities, but as they grow older they need to understand the impact daily physical activity has on their health and wellness. As they grow older, they may have different avenues to pursue healthy lifestyles because they have the knowledge to create individualized exercise programs.
