My students need a new tuba! The one we have is older than the band director and is literally falling apart. No tuba glue in the world can revive it. Help our students!

My Students
Please help us with our quest to BRING ON THE BASS! Balancing our band with more low instruments is our goal. A "great-sounding" middle school band typically has a low brass section consisting of almost 20% of their population. Our low brass section is only 4% of the band! We need more bass.
There are over 800 students in our middle school and we have great cultural diversity.
Over 85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced cost lunch; there is not much of a budget for buying new instruments. Within our school there is a smaller academy consisting of about 100 students called the 'Goddard Scholars'. This is my band. My band students are academically accelerated and highly motivated (the 'perfect storm' for a band director) yet the instruments available to us are old and falling apart. Our school band is expanding next year (2012-2013) to include 6th grade students, adding 48 students to our roster. Not only are we faced with replacing our impossible to repair instruments, 48 more instruments need to find their way into our school. Please help us keep our band afloat, thriving and balanced. The students so deserve it.
My Project
It is said that for a finely balanced middle school band of 60 to 70 students, you must utilize three or four tubas, five bass clarinets, two baritone horns, a bass trombone and a baritone sax to boost the bass. That's 19-21% of the band. Our band is averaging 95 students every year, yet we only have one tuba, one bass clarinet, a euphonium and a baritone horn - each ready to kick the bucket at any moment. That's only 4% of our band. That powerful, dark sound is what we strive for yet can never reach due to lack of instrumentation. Not only are we desperate for a larger bass section, but with the expansion of our band next year, the bass is sure to get lost. This tuba requested could help our band reach a new level of balance in sound and achievement.
With no funding for school instruments, we desperately need all of your help to achieve our goals.
This tuba will help us reach a new level of musicianship for years and years to come. By beginning tuba players in the middle school, this will encourage them to continue to play and excel at the high school level. Please help us foster a growing music program.
