Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students have the best attitude! They enjoy working and playing all day. I always tell the children that if they work hard they will get smart. (Of course I know that they are already smart but I want to instill in them a strong desire to do their best).
My students are caring and respectful children who are learning English as a second language.
They require a lot of extra support to get them to the level of performance that their monolingual peers achieve by the end of the year. Some of them came into Kindergarten not knowing a single letter.
My Project
We do a lot of small group activities in Kindergarten and I need to provide suitable spaces to keep the children engaged in their tasks. I will use the shelf requested to provide organization and storage in the block center. The rug will provide a cozy area in my math center.
These materials will make our classroom a more organized, functional space in which students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own needs and learning.
It will also make it easier for the students to access the materials they need in the math and literacy centers.
