My Students

Through the use of Scholastic News, I hope my students have a greater understanding of the world outside of their own community through weekly magazine articles.

In my 4th grade classroom, the students are curious and interested in the outside world but, are limited by the resources I have.

They are filled with wonder when we discuss things like foreign countries and exotic animals. All of the students in my class come from a lower socioeconomic status and do not have these magazines in their homes. The students are surrounded by a supportive group of teachers who are working hard to prepare the students for college and career readiness through all of the resources that we bring into the school and classroom.

My Project

My students will have the opportunity to use the magazines as a way of learning about the world outside their own community. Scholastic News is beneficial because it has information from across many subject areas including, science, social studies, and reading. We will be able to read and discuss them as a class and the students will have opportunities to read them individually or with other students in the class.

Students will be able to bring the Scholastic News home and share the information with their family.

Through the use of Scholastic News, students will be able to experience informational texts in a form that they do not normally see and utilize in their day to day lives. Scholastic News will help my students to have a more meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
