This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine trying to learn with papers, glue, scissors, crayons, etc. all over your work space? Well this is what my students and I are dealing with. They need a place of their own to put their things. We don't have desks and can't get them, so there is nowhere to put their supplies.

My 19 students are English language learners and come from a low income community.

17 of my students are learning English for the first time. Our school is a low income, high needs school. Many of our students come from refugee camps or are coming into the country for other reasons. Either way, most of them are brand new to American culture and the English language. Needless to say, this makes for some very chaotic kindergarten days. My students try very hard; they just need a lot of support.

My Project

With these resources, my students will be able to have a clear workspace. It won't be cluttered with folders, papers, pencil boxes, and other supplies. We will be able to create an organized, clutter free space which will allow for fewer distractions in their learning. I know for many adults it is hard to focus when there is a lot clutter around; imagine how hard it is for a 5 year old. My students will also learn that they can be organized and keep up with all of their belongings. That skill is invaluable.

This project is important because it is the only way we can get these resources.

The district won't provide them or anything else. We need to teach our kids how to be organized at an early age.
