This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We strive to give our students opportunities in a variety of the arts. Chorus, Drama, Percussion, Guitar, and Dance are offered to all of our students. We feel the arts motivate our students to be very best they can.
Our students attend school in a high poverty county in South Carolina.
Many of our students come from economically challenged situations. Our arts program provides many the opportunity to experience various forms of the performing and visual arts, which they would not normally be able to afford in the private sector.
My Project
Our goal with this project is to make our arts program more self-sustainable and less reliant on grants or funding that may not be available in the future. One way to do that is to video our performances, and then sell the DVDs to our family, friends and community members, generating a modest amount of funds which are fed directly back into our arts program. The students learn about the filming and production process in addition to the performance aspect.
Donating to this project will help to ensure that our Visual and Performing Arts programs will be available for future generations of students to come.
With the ability to produce and sell DVDs of our performances, we will be able offset some of the costs of maintaining our arts programs, as well as give our students some exposure to the Audio/Video production process.
