Helen Cox High School is a public school located outside New Orleans in Jefferson Parish. A high school newspaper will be beneficial in engaging students by encouraging literacy, and it will also be a great tool to help us grow our amazing "cougar" culture.
Our mission is to provide excellence in teaching and learning that enable all students to become lifelong learners and productive citizens.
Helen Cox High School students are actively engaged in class and extracurricular activities. We strive to provide opportunities for all students to achieve academic excellence and to provide a high quality teaching/learning environment that assures that every student learns.
Our materials will be used by the Journalism group on-campus to create, produce, and manage our school newspaper. This will be a new venture for our school and the students are excited to get started. The computer will be used to produce and lay out our school paper. The camera will be used to take quality photos for use in the newspaper to go along with our student written articles. Every good layout editor needs a style guide to aid them in the process, that book was included in the material list. Finally, a fast printer and scanner are needed to proof and include advertising from our local community to make the paper self sustaining.
This project will make such a difference for our Advanced Composition and Journalism groups.
We will be able to encourage reading and writing of informational texts into the school through a school newspaper. We are excited to introduce this new group and to vastly impact our ability to connect the students through the paper.
