Help, Our Computer Crashed!

My students need a new computer for our Hawk News broadcast. Our laptop is just not cutting it anymore.

My Students

It's Monday afternoon and the Hawk news team enters the room. They gather around and talk about upcoming school events. They divide up into teams and head out to tackle their story for the week. A few students hang back and prepare a rough script for the show. Editing a story is all that's left.

Our team consists of creative 5th through 8th grade students with a drive for video editing and delivering the news through a weekly broadcast.

These students have a wide range when it comes to their backgrounds. Several students use English as their second language and use this club as a way to help increase their English skills.

My Project

The new computer will remove some of the headaches that we are currently facing with our computer. When streaming live events our news feed is choppy and of poor quality. Our current processor speed and ram is not enough to handle what we are doing. This new computer will alleviate some of the stress associated with running a live news broadcast.

We have only been running Hawks news for a quarter now but I have seen a huge change in my students.

Several students have gained more confidence and interact with their peers more than they previously did. I only hope that this program can continue and reach more students throughout our school.
