Help My 6th Graders Become Writers and Researchers!
My students need Chromebooks to work on research projects and to work on their essay writing, especially since most of them don't have computers at home.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are learning how to write multi-paragraph essays and how to research. Since most of my students are English language learners and don't write much at home, writing doesn't come easy to them. I hope they'll be writing multi-paragraph research papers by June.
My students are creative and hard-working.
However, many of them don't live in print-rich environments and struggle with the mechanics of writing and with organizing their thoughts. My school is a Project-Based Learning school, which means that my students are learning valuable critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Currently, my school just has one Chromebook cart for the entire middle school to share, which has made it difficult for my students to work on their research projects or use our online writing tools, such as Google Classroom.
My Project
My school greatly values digital literacy, and strongly believes that our students should be as comfortable with technology as students in wealthier districts are. My students are all familiar with using Google Drive and Google Classroom; students who are reluctant writers and can't keep track of their notebooks have been writing thoughtful responses in Google Classroom--and they've been turning their work in on time! Google Classroom and Google Drive has made learning how to write much more exciting for my students. Additionally, because we're a Project-Based Learning school, my students are always doing research. Having a set of Chromebooks in my classroom would make research go much smoother, especially since many of my students don't have the resources to do online research at home.
Because we have one cart of Chromebooks for the whole middle school to share, my students' research and writing projects are often disrupted when other classes need to use the Chromebooks.
With my own classroom set, my students will be able to consistently work on their projects and their writing, without me having to work around the needs of the other middle school teachers.
