My Students
My classroom is not defined the by four walls that surround us. Our learning goes well beyond those walls. We are inventors, researchers, creators, collaborators, philanthropists, technophiles, and scholars. My students are always reaching for more ways to learn.
My business and technology classes have students from various grade levels, socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, and academic capabilities.
These students come together in such an amazing way to create amazing results. They support each other unconditionally and really have a desire to change the world around them. Many of my students got their first taste of computer science while participating in the Hour of Code, a national event to promote computer science in December. Since then, they have been asking for more! I hope to fulfill this project of Makey Makey, Raspberry Pi, and Orbotix Sphero devices to give the students more technology to work with and learn from.
My Project
Authentic learning experiences and real world problems to solve are the cornerstones of my classes. Since participating in the Hour of Code, my students have been hungry for more! After receiving a student request to establish an after school club dedicated to computer science, I knew we were on to something! The Makey Makey, Raspberry Pi, and Orbotix Sphero devices with accessories will provide avenues for the students to test their programming/coding skills and see how they translate into tangible output. Students will be able to program these devices using their computer science skills to see how they work. These will be used during classes and after school to hone their computer science and programming/coding skills.
By being able to program and control devices such as the Makey Makey, Raspberry Pi, and Orbotix Sphero, my students will see their computer science projects come to life.
This will inspire them to think outside the box and to create the unimaginable. I will give students the opportunity to use these devices during classes and after school to gain computer science and coding experience using tools that we do not currently have access to.
