Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day for the students I work with involves at least 1 group using my computer lab. Different groups of students come in for various reasons. However, they all need access to a working computer station regardless of the program they come in to use.
All students at all learning levels come in to use the computer lab.
However, the students needing remediation (SSI students) are those who use the computers most. This year, they are currently being asked to work on 3 web-based instructional programs. The students LOVE to use the computers! For most, the only computers they have access to are the ones at school. We are a Title 1 school, which means most of our families are low-income. Our students love the integration of technology in our classrooms. We strive to keep our computer labs in working condition, but the wear and tear of our computer equipment has made it difficult to keep it in working condition with complete student stations. This has made it difficult for us to keep the student computer lab/stations in fully-functioning condition, which includes a working computer equipped with headphones and a class document camera with projector.
My Project
With working headphones at each student station, all students can expect to comfortably complete their on-line modules without worrying about whether or not they will be "lucky" enough to get a set of headphones that day or not. They shouldn't need luck at all! With this purchase, they can rest assured knowing they will be able to sit at a fully-equipped computer and complete their assignments. Also, with a document camera and projector, the teacher will be able to model for students directly and easily. Students will also be able to model for each other using the document camera. Lastly, students will be able to project their presentations/projects to the entire group using the document camera and/or projector.
Donations will help get our computer lab back to fully functioning.
Teachers will be more inclined to send their students to the computer lab without having to worry about the number of working student stations. A fully-equipped computer lab will allow more students access to technology that they do not have at home and help them stay current in technology used in the classroom. Most importantly, students will be able to complete their assignments more frequently than ever before.
