Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students currently only visualize the human skeleton by textbook pictures. Their learning would be much improved and more fascinating if they could actually see and manipulate a skeleton.
I teach in a public school.
My classes are composed of students from different ethnic backgrounds and the majority of them are English language learners, living in a non-English speaking household. They hope to acquire an education to improve themselves and be prepared for the future.
My Project
I am requesting a full size human skeleton with articulated joints that allow movement and have color coded points of origin and insertion. The skull features a movable jaw. The skeleton is assembled on a rod mounted stand with casters and it has a dust cover for protection. It will be used by my students to visualize and understand the three dimensional structure of the internal framework of the body.
The presence of a skeleton model in my anatomy and physiology class will allow for real connections between concepts and my students lives.
It will also allow for a more meaningful lesson with hands-on learning.
