My Students
We are preparing students today for jobs that don't yet exist in our world. They need to be armed with the best tools and skills and we can do that by putting technology directly into their hands in an educational settings with help from Google Apps.
My students are eager learners who love to dive right in and start working.
My classroom currently has 25 students and we are fully immersed in the world of first grade! We are a lab school with two teachers in every classroom which allows us the freedom to work with students in a more individualized way. The lab school setting also gives us the opportunity to explore different ways of educating students, including our recent decision to "Go Google" in our school and classrooms. Google has apps that allow for more collaboration between students at any age or grade level exposing them to 21st century skills and the necessary tools they will need for the future.
My Project
My students need 10 Google tablets for education. These tablets are portable and just the right size for little hands. Students are constantly moving around the classroom and learning becomes virtual. Being able to take learning anywhere in the room would encourage independence which is a first step towards student success. Building independence through responsibility is a major part of first grade. Research has shown that teaching in smaller groups boosts student learning much more than whole group lessons, teachers must motivate students to be independent in learning centers so that teaching in small groups can occur. Allowing students to individually work with tablets will encourage responsibility and help to improve the smooth running of the classroom and therefore maximize learning for all. The students will be able to use the tablets to make videos, take pictures, record voices, read/listen to stories, and so much more.
Student learning will be immensely enhanced.
The classroom will be engaged in each individual student's instruction. They will be armed with the tools and knowledge to be one step closer to competing in the global community and for the changes in the world in the years to come.
