What was your favorite book growing up? Do you remember reading it over and over? My students need more opportunities to fall in love with books. They need successful experiences with books at their level and time with books that spark their imagination.
My students are brand new first graders.
They are excited to be in school and they are ready to read! My students come from many different socioeconomic backgrounds, representing many cultures and races. They attend a large public school in North Carolina.
My Project
We need more "good fit" books to satisfy the curious minds in our classroom. My students need books that are fun and engaging to keep them motivated to read. We are asking for Dr. Seuss books with repetitive patterns and classic stories that students will have the opportunity to fall in love with. We are also asking for additional books on CD for our listening library and big books to help us celebrate diversity within our classroom.
This project, "Good Fit Books Needed!" is important because the more that students read the better readers they will become.
Engaging literature encourages more students to be active participants in their reading choices, ultimately setting them up to become life-long learners.
