This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember meeting someone who read the same book as you did? What an amazing connection to make with other students in our school, district, state, country and around the world!
My class is located in a Kindergarten through 8th grade school just east of San Francisco.
Our school is comprised of a mixed demographic of students with more than 90% receiving free or reduced price lunches. The challenges at home don't stop my students from reading and reading and reading. Each year, my 7th grade students read over 75% of the books in my classroom library and plead for me to purchase more high interest, engaging books! All this reading has resulted in phenomenal reading growth and exhausted my classroom books and bookshelves! This year, my 7th graders increased their reading level by an average of two grade levels in just one year! Our school strives to improve the lives of our students through engaging teaching strategies and programs after school run by our teachers. We are active participants in the No Excuses University group of schools and believe that our students are "College Bound"!
My Project
My students will use this class set of One for the Murphy's to read and connect with other students who are reading the same novel across the country and across the world. This activity is part of the Global Read Aloud program which encourages teachers and students to connect with one another through literature! We will read the same book at the same rate and collaborate with other students. What an amazing experience for our students!
These books will engage my students in literature and conversations among diverse populations.
In turn, this will encourage my students to engage in conversations about books and promote learning!
Reading opens the door to so many other opportunities. With your donations, I will be able to help my students open those doors and learn!!
