Remember what it was like the last time you had that, "Ah-ha" moment? Seeing examples of exemplary work frequently gives my students that "Ah-ha" moment where they just "get it". Many of my students are visual learners and a document camera will help them understand what is expected of them.
Nearly 150 students walk in and out of my classroom on a daily basis.
Some of my students come to school hungry and from an environment where school is the last thing on their minds. Most students today are used to the fast paced world where technology is commonplace. They need and deserve a classroom that grabs them up by the boot strings and says, "Come on friends, this is gonna be a great day in school. We are going to learn a lot." I find that using technology in the classroom helps me do just that!
My Project
By using the document camera in class I would be able to give the students another avenue to understand what is expected of them, to show them examples of outstanding work, to just brainstorm together in class, or for me to model a writing activity. Sometimes writing can be messy. Writing doesn't automatically look like the final draft. You write a thought, you change it, you add to it, then you come up with another idea. It would be an incredible asset to be able to show them the writing process first hand.
My students want to see my thought process, to see that even a teacher makes mistakes, that we need to pre-write, plan, and make corrections. Modeling for our students, and having our students model, is a very powerful tool in the classroom. Not only will the document camera help model writing, but it will also allow my students to show examples of many different types of their work to the entire classroom at one time rather than unnecessary copies.
My students are thirsty!
Thirsty for education, thirsty to be inspired, thirsty for more! I want to be able to give my students "more!" I can tell you without a doubt that adding technology to my classroom would be a tremendous asset. Please consider donating to this project. I know that I, and my students, would be VERY GRATEFUL! Thank you!
