My students need Baseball Math, Football Math, World Conflict Series of WWI and WWII, plastic syringes, Common Core Writing, and Common Core Activity Cards.
So tell me, how did you solve that particular problem? Common core is here to stay and children in upper grade levels have not become accustomed to the rigor of it all. Common Core focuses on one major issue, how did you get the answer?
My students are in an all boys 5th grade class in a title one school.
My classroom has about the biggest variety of students that you could imagine with students ranging from gifted and talented to students on 2nd grade reading levels. The one thing that sets them apart from all others is the bonds they have created being in an all boys classroom.
My Project
I am requesting some resources from every subject that I teach. In science, we love to do hands on activities and a lot of our activities calls for a certain mL amount of water. The syringes will become very helpful so we will not have to keep pouring our liquids into graduated cylinders and making huge messes. The math resources I am requesting are all common core based resources that will help tremendously to the switch in the curriculum we are currently having to learn. The reading resources challenge students with everyday comprehension practice that goes with common core and the Non-fictional text (which makes up a huge percentage of common core) will also integrate with our Social Studies curriculum.
My project is so important to these upper elementary level students because they are not used to the explanation of their thinking that common core is requesting of them.
Ever since they have began school they have just been made to find an answer. Now with common core they are being told to explain how they came up with their answer and explain their thinking process. This is a huge adjustment that students who have been programed a certain way have to make in order to succeed.
