Getting Financially Literate with AKJ

My Students

Do you remember opening your first bank account? How nervous and excited you were? Were you fortunate enough to have someone helping you, walking you through it? Today's students need that same assistance to learn to become financial literate.

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds.

Many times they are switching schools every year because many are military. When they miss a portion of the year sometimes they miss important units, such as the financial literacy unit. By enacting the EverFi curriculum I can help our students fill in those gaps, no matter when they transfer in. The EverFi digital curriculum will allow the students to run through a variety of scenarios, at their individual pace, to learn about credit, checking and savings accounts, mortgages, certificate of deposits, and several other things that will allow them to be more financially literate. This will allow the students to achieve the knowledge missed at anytime during the year.

My Project

Financial literacy, or lack there of, has been a main stream problem in the United States for the past several years. Individuals eager to buy their first homes agree to mortgages they won't be able to afford due to changing APR. Individuals will apply for credit cards that they do not have a clear understanding of. Help me change the financial literacy of our future, one class at a time. The future of their finances will have a direct impact on the economy of the future as well. Help me impact the future economy.

My students are extremely diverse.

Many come from families that move around often and do not set roots down long enough to learn about financial literacy. By providing them the opportunity to use this curriculum, at any time during the year, they will gain the knowledge of mortgages, loans, credit cards, APRs, banking, and other things that will help them become financially sound citizens. The curriculum will always be available, not matter when they arrive to learn it.
