This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Board games are not merely games! So much can be learned from the board game experience. Help my students relish in all of the learning that goes along with playing classic and new board games.
I teach 30 bright and beautiful children in a high need area of New York City.
Most of my students receive free or reduced lunch and are so eager to learn every day. Unfortunately, my classroom does not always meet the needs of my very excited learners with regards to materials and supplies.
My Project
My students need educational board games and classic games to play during free time and during small group instruction, reinforcing many skills. Many of my students come from low income families or families that speak English as a second language. Many of my students come to school never having played childhood classic games such as Monopoly or Clue. The games I am requesting such as Scrabble, Checkers and Boggle will be used to teach and practice many skills necessary for a third grade student. Students will learn cooperation, sharing, patience, counting, memory and many important language and vocabulary skills as well.
Board games should be a part of every childhood.
Happy memories are made while sitting around a table playing a game. As a teacher, I know how to use these games to focus on teachable moments. By donating to this project, you will be helping students learn skills while enjoying themselves!
