This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students are excited to go back to school shopping for school supplies. However my current students don't get to experience this. Most of my students arrived on the first day of school without school supplies because their families can't afford them.

I am a second grade teacher in California.

Our school serves a large percentage of minority students from low income households. My school is a Title 1 school with 100% of the students qualifying for free lunch. Due to the ongoing state and local school district cuts in education our school and PTA does not have much discretionary money to fund school supplies.

My Project

A successful classroom starts right from the beginning. School supplies are the fundamental tools needed to stay organized and efficient. When students are provided with pencils to write, erasers to erase their mistakes, and composition notebooks to solve word problems, it is easier for them to focus on the lesson, thus grasp the content being taught. I have such high expectations for the students, and want to make sure that they are given the opportunity to experience the most productive and engaging year possible.

With your generous donations, my students will stay organized and focused on learning, rather than spending time finding materials or relying on their parents trying to buy something they can't afford.

The students will have the basic supplies they need to be excited for their second grade year, and be successful while doing so. I want nothing more than to start the year off right by exciting my students with the materials they deserve.
