This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is an exciting place! Everyday is a new adventure and one that pushes students to be creative.
I want my students to understand that everything we do in life is for a purpose.
I have 24 general education students in my second grade classroom.
We are a well balanced, diverse school that strives for success.
Our school is the leading school in Montgomery County for green space. Our school was recently built with the environment in mind. We already have raised bed gardens in which we grow fresh vegetables to give to our local food bank.
My Project
The materials that we requested will help us incorporate freshly grown herbs and vegetables into actual food. In previous years we grew herbs and using the herbs we grew, we came up with a menu. Parents came in to help and together we cooked food using the ingredients from our garden. Due to limited space, we would like an Aero garden so we can grow fresh herbs in our classroom. Students are responsible for taking care of the plants, and charting their growth throughout the entire process.
As a teacher, everyday we are trying to help enhance the learning of my students.
The indoor garden will help teach responsibility and show the students how to maintain a living organism. The garden will be an essential tool that will help incorporate food with science!
