Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At the end of the year, I want my students to look back and smile thinking about all of the fun they have had and all of the things they have learned. I want them to feel confident in their abilities and to realize that learning can be fun!
My students come from an extremely low socio-economic area that has a high crime rate.
My students are served breakfast, lunch, and snack each day for free. Many of my students and parents are not native English speakers. Additionally, my school building is over 100 years old! It is difficult for my students to know their potential when they are surrounded by crime, poverty, and parents who are just getting by. I want to light a fire within my students and illuminate their desire to succeed and break out of the mold. I want them to appreciate learning and have a desire for knowledge.
My Project
I want to incorporate the math and literacy games into my daily centers. Often times, students are unmotivated to work independently. Also, sometimes students do the bare minimum to get by and don't attempt to challenge themselves. I am requesting a variety of games which I plan to use to motivate students to be engaged in the skills and topics we are learning. Instead of just talking a money for example, students can play one of the games and get a chance to apply their skills in a meaningful way that will deepen their understanding.
I recently switched grade levels and the previous teacher did not leave me any materials.
I want to improve my classroom morale and spice up our daily routine. The games will give students something positive to look forward to and will make learning fun. My students will greatly benefit from having a chance to try out their skills to use in a way that they will see as beneficial. Additionally, the games will allow students a chance to practice sportsmanship, and follow rules.
