Sitting at a table is not how young children learn. Learning through play is important to me and makes learning more meaningful to young children.
My school has the largest percentage of low-income students.
In my class, 85% are on free or reduced-price lunches. These are children who come to school and it may be their only stability is seeing their teacher every day.
In our classroom we have established a classroom family. They come in ready to learn and I strive to give them the most hands-on learning experience that they otherwise may not have had the opportunity for.
My Project
Using blocks in my classroom will teach many skills that will help children in their lifetimes. Working together to build a structure promotes social skills and cooperative learning. As the children build their structures they will face block building problems. They can use social skills to problem solve and in a more simple concept use their designing and engineering skills to make their structures successful.
Unit blocks promote math by introducing math skills. Many unit blocks teach simple fractions.
Your donations towards unit blocks will give my students the hands-on learning that make school successful and more meaningful.
Learning to get along with each other and build using blocks promotes social skills that they may otherwise be lacking. This will be meaningful and important for them in their school lifetime.
