I am a first year teacher (and former Marine!) with a class of 17 second-grade students at a diverse school in a high-poverty area of Central Florida.

My school includes many unique student populations, including students with exceptionalities and a high percentage of English Language Learners. My students are eager, enthusiastic, and love to learn! They are creative, innovative, and think outside the box. However, many of my students lack access to technology, and many are economically disadvantaged. Others have been diagnosed with ADD/HD or with learning disabilities. Integrating the arts and technology into science, mathematics, and other core subjects will help every one of my students to learn, achieve, and excel!

My Project

Arts integration is a highly motivational and effective method of teaching and learning. Integrating the arts with technology will make an enormous impact on my students who each have unique learning styles, experiences, and aptitudes. With an iPad mini, modeling clay, and tools, my students can collaborate with one another to research and create claymation videos that demonstrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) concepts. For example, students can create claymation videos that demonstrate the properties of matter, the life cycles of animals, or the addition and subtraction of three-digit numbers. Creating claymation videos will make learning a vivid and exciting experience for my whole class!

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) builds creative, 21st century learners who are well-prepared to meet future challenges!

STEAM will transform my students' lives as they build critical thinking and cooperative learning skills. Donations to this project will make STEAM possible for my students.
