My students need a laptop, child headphones, and a warranty.

I have an amazing, FANTASTIC, inspirational group of little people in my classroom this year! My greatest challenge will be not only grounding their knowledge and providing a solid foundation for the years to come, but to feed and kindle their voracious desire to learn about the world around them.
My students are in the Extended Foreign Language program.
This means that we don't just learn our ABC's and 123's--we learn how to say it in Spanish, too! Thankfully, my students meet the task with grace and wisdom that is beyond their years. It's only the second week of school and I have already been moved and astounded at how eager they are to learn about EVERYTHING we talk about in class. I know that with these laptops, headphones and warranty, we could do more than what we currently can with four working computers in the classroom to our 18 students, some of whom are ESOL students, still learning English as their second language. And yes, our school is in a lower socioeconomic area, but I don't feel like that HAS to play a factor in the QUALITY of education that they are given. Like I tell my students: it's just a little speed bump.
To say that things have been changing for the past few years in the realm of education would be an understatement! Between moving to the Common Core curriculum just a few years ago, we are now moving into new waters, where part of the state assessment test will be given on the computer. Yet, with the help of our community, I know that the students under my care can receive a GREAT start of their education, if we can get the right tools in place. I plan to introduce typing through the use of free software available through the Google store, so my students can leave me with basic knowledge of the keys and their placement. I also intend to use the laptops during our center time to ensure that all students have access to district provided software for differentiated-instruction, allowing me to help catch any students who are struggling or having difficulties in reading and math. The possibilities are endless for my group of little explorers.
I want to do everything in my power this year to make sure that my students leave me with a treasure trove of practical and applicable computer/technology skills.
From a basic understanding of computers, typing skills, to being able to type out their independent thoughts. I know that given the chance to introduce technology on a much more hands-on basis than I can with only four desktop computers, this donation will undoubtedly change their young lives for the better.
