Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

"Fractions" is a scary word to a lot of us even as adults. But with the aid of clipboards and fraction towers my class will be fill with bold brave mathematicians.

My fifth graders are beautiful.

Each day they make me smile. They are smart and curious and full of eagerness to interact with the world at large. Our school is in an urban environment, but students come from a wide range of neighborhoods. This diversity is a strength.

My Project

There is something magical about a clipboard in the hand of a ten year old. They can suddenly move around to write and work out their thoughts and for some reason they is also a sense of importance that comes with that. We will use the fraction towers to take a hands on approach to adding subtracting converting and finding equivalent fractions.

This project will improve our math lessons by giving the students a chance to work with fractions in a way that is much less intimidating than sitting at a desk and attempting to follow algorithms.
