I have the most amazing group of fifth graders!
I teach two classes and these books would be available to all students in both classes. My school is an arts magnet school located in an urban area. We integrate the arts in all of our core classes. In addition to this, my classroom library is open to all students to borrow for as long as they need. The students love to read and constantly ask for help finding a new book. Keeping the library well-stocked is always a challenge and this project will help the students have access to great literature.

This project encourages them to read quality literature. It requests Stuart Little, The Bad Beginning: Or, Orphans!, Frog and Toad Are Friends, The Cat in the Hat, A Treasury of Curious George, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Red Fern Grows, The One and Only Ivan, Goodnight Moon, Walk Two Moons, The BFG, Charlotte's Web, Esperanza Rising, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Ramona the Pest and I Am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World.
The books on the list have been selected as books that have withstood the test of time and have become classics for all ages. The books are across genres and levels, so every child will be able to participate and enjoy. It also gives every child a goal to work towards for the entire year. I also ordered multiple copies so the books can be enjoyed by many students for years to come!
This project will make a huge difference in the lives of each student.
Every book on the list teaches a valuable lesson and gives the student different perspectives. The students will become better readers, as well as grow in their experiences about life.
