FACT: Fairness, Acceptance, Cooperation and Tolerance
My students need 20 copies each of "Me and Momma and Big John" and "Fly Away Home" to help them learn ways to be accepting of each other in school.

My Students
Do you know what it is like to be the new student in school? The student who doesn't have a permanent home? The student who doesn't have nice clothes to wear? These books will help students understand not everyone is the same.
These students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
We are a public elementary school in a rural area. We have non English speaking children, and a very diverse learning community. We are a Title I school with many children on free and reduced price lunch.
My Project
The books I am requesting are going to help teach students a variety of important messages that will make them better people. Each book will be read to students during a specific month and will be referred to throughout the month and year to encourage the use of its message. Some of the messages the books will encourage are: Tolerance, Acceptance and Fairness.
I do believe reading and discussing books with students is a powerful teaching tool.
We influence students in many ways and reading is just one way to do this. Finding appropriate reading material is always a challenge, but finding a way to purchase these books is a bigger challenge. I know the books I chose and the messages they convey will help students develop skills that will encourage Fairness, Acceptance, Connections and Tolerance
