My Students

"I have no country to fight for: my country is the earth, and I am a citizen of the world," said Eugene V. Debs. My students are learning what it means to be a global citizen.

We have a fabulous group of 3rd graders who attend a public school with the IB PYP program.

This program focuses on Internationalism and learning about different perspectives. Many of our students have not been out of the city, so giving them many different avenues to explore the world is important.

My Project

This project will help foster their reading ability, support their I.B. units of inquiry, expand their knowledge of current events, and help them inquire more into today's hot topics. Time for Kids is written at an appropriate level and includes stories that interest 3rd graders. Politician James B Hunt once said, "Globalization is a fact. Every major problem we face from economic growth to the environment to public health to reducing poverty and inequality to improving national and homeland security will require more international knowledge and cooperation than ever before. This magazine is a fabulous resource, written at the 3rd grade reading level, that will help students gain this international knowledge.

Reading more non-fiction texts, like Time For Kids, helps foster proficient readers.

In addition Time For Kids magazine mirrors real world texts, making it authentic reading. This is just one of many non-fiction texts that help prepare students for the real world.
