My students need two weekly magazine subscriptions written for second grade to help them learn about current events and science. We need file folders and bins to help them stay organized.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I believe the more students learn about the world around them, the more they will learn about themselves. It is so important for them to know and understand the world we live in! I have been searching for a way to bring science and social studies to life for my students in new and exciting ways!
We are a Title I school in rural North Carolina where 70% of my class speaks English as a second language, and a whopping 96% of our school receive free or reduced lunch.
My students are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They love to learn about the world around them and of different parts of the world they have never seen.
My Project
Receiving the Scholastic Magazine for Kids and Time for Kids on a weekly basis will give my students the opportunity to experience and read about current news and world events. To support the Common Core curriculum the students will use these materials to improve reading comprehension skills. It will also be a spring board to research projects that require real-world learning and 21st century skills such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. In order to help them with staying organized the file folders, hanging folders, and organizational storage will ensure our materials remain neat and easily accessible.
With the weekly magazines coming throughout the year, my students will become accustomed to reading with a purpose to further their understanding of the world around them.
Ultimately, I hope that all students will benefit from reading this material, and perhaps it will spark a global interest in many of my students.
