Expressing hearts without words, one masterpiece at a time

My students need paint, canvases, paint brushes and paint trays to be able to use their creative juices.

My Students

"This world is but a canvas to our imagination." Henry D. Thoreau. This relates to my project because I want kids to learn that Art is something that is not restricted by rules. There is no right or wrong way to Art. Art gives kids the freedom to express their hearts without words.

I have 28 students in my classroom, 19 boys and 9 girls, and for my area, that is a full load.

With such a big class, it can be challenging sometimes, but I think my students do a pretty good job. My classroom is definitely a broad horizon of personalities. They keep me quite entertained. I try to make learning fun for them the best I can. One subject I wish students were able to do more would be Art. I loved Art when I was in school and still do to this day. It makes me feel free and helps me to think and be creative. I feel as if Art is my happy place. I want to open my students up to a world of Art so that they can see what it feels like to be able to use their "creative juices." The area where I teach is definitely a rural area. Over half of my students are sons and daughters of coal miners. However, our school has a whole is an impoverished school. It is not unusual for our school to have 1 class per grade. The only class we have 2 of currently is 5th grade.

My Project

Students will be able to do many activities with the supplies I am requesting. Students will be able to use their creativity to create Art projects within the classroom. The canvases and paint will allow me to create Art lessons to do with my students. Students will be able to use their "creative juices" to add their own twist to their paintings. The trays will serve as a material holder to helper students gather materials and make clean up easier. Students will learn how to use their creativity to make individual masterpieces to showcase and share with the other students around the school. Art is a subject I feel very strongly about. It helps students to share their feelings not by words, but by pictures. There is no right or wrong way to create a piece of Art. With these materials I will be able to teach students how to paint and bring out their artistic sides. I also eventually hope to start an Art club at our school to which students will be able to endure different crafty tasks.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom by giving my students the chance to express their hearts through Art.

Art gives students the chance to be free and use the creative parts of their brain. It helps students to see that they can be an artist because there is no right or wrong way when it comes to Art. Yes, mistakes will be made, but most of the time that is what makes a masterpiece! Anyone can be an artist. All it takes is a creative mind and a willing heart.
