My students need a new sand table and a new water table to replace the worn out tables we currently have. My students need two play mats to place under these tables.
Handfuls of fun is where our learning has begun! Think about the first time you felt sand and water run between your fingers and toes. How did it feel? Was the sand wet or dry? Where were you when you touched sand and water? Building meanginful sensory play is essential in a child's development.
My 40 preschoolers are little sponges when it comes to learning and sensory exploration!
They are brightly motivated learners, and enjoy using their five senses to learn about their world around them. My students are a part of a state preschool program that allows them to come to school five days a week for roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes each day. My students come from all walks of life and come in with many different life experiences.
My Project
Children are wired to receive and experience sensory play from day one! That is why so many of us see children dive right in when they see or hear something new and exciting that they can touch, taste, hear, smell, and see. Have you ever observed a child? They are scientific learners by observing, questioning, and experiencing everything around them!
Sand and water tables offer students hands-on experiences that they might not otherwise have in their daily life. Through exploration with movement, speed, weight, comparing/contrasting, counting, writing, language skills and so much more, my students will gain daily skills to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Students in my classroom will have daily experiences with our sand and water tables by creating themed sensory exploration opportunities based on their interests with objects that should be a part of their everyday environment. (Ex: letters, numbers, balls/ramps, animals, shovels, scales, transpiration, and sifters).
Having a brand new sand table and water table and mats would be such an amazing addition to our classroom.
With the current sensory tables that I have, I am using duck tape to keep the sand in the table, and a wine cork to keep the water from coming out of the plug! Also, having a larger water table will offer my students more opportunities in exploration with how water moves through objects, and also sink/float concepts. Your donation will impacts my current students and the students in years to come.
