My students need to learn about plants by reading about them in books, growing them in Root Vue Farms, and looking at the foam cross section flower that shows the parts.
My students learn best through hands on experiences. They love doing science experiments and learn better through them.
My classroom includes 22 students that are curious, energetic, and ready to learn about science.
Science activities are one of their favorite parts of school. I try to provide them with at least one science experiment/activity during every science unit, but our supplies are limited for some topics. I currently do not have any resources to use during our unit on plants.
My Project
We need to learn about plants by reading about them in books, growing them in Root Vue Farms, and looking at the foam cross section flower that shows the parts. The students will use the books, posters and plant model to learn about plants. Then we will be doing experiments to develop a better understanding of plants.
Students will be divided into groups to do an experiment with the Root Vue. One group will be experimenting with the effects of light on plant growth. Another group will be experimenting with the amount of water plants need. A third group will use different types of water. A fourth group will be experimenting with the use of fertilizer.
Science is easier to understand when children experience it first hand.
By doing this project, our classroom will become a lab and the children become scientists. This project will literally bring plants to life in our classroom.
