My Students
Think about the way you learn out in the world. You encounter a problem, a pickle, a situation, and you find a practical solution. The Venture Program is about helping students develop their skills with creative problem solving through accounting and design.
Students at our school have positive energy, good ideas, and high standards when it comes to what they want to learn.
Our school is incredibly diverse both ethnically and socioeconomically, which puts both teachers and students in a unique position to learn from one another culturally as well as academically.
My Project
The students who are drawn to the Venture Program in particular want to learn through practical situations (as opposed to theory followed by practice). This program leverages the students' natural enthusiasm and creativity towards the concrete business skills of accounting and graphic/industrial design.
My students need calculators and register tape, cash boxes, folders, and notebooks to have tools to operate their store and supplies for our initial inventory. These resources will be be crucial in establishing a student-run store, the laboratory for both the design and accounting foundations of the program. Our students will learn how to be confident, self-starting entrepreneurs with legitimate business experience on their resumes.
We believe that learning should happen in real-time, actual environments.
This program will allow our students, especially those who struggle in a typical academic setting, to encounter real problems and develop real solutions. It will challenge them and show them the importance not only of definable skills with computer programs and calculators, but also those inestimably important skills of leadership, collegiality, and perseverance.
