Everyone is Different. Everyone is the Same.

My students need poster materials and child dolls that represent people with differing abilities, to gain an understanding of how people are alike and different.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you saw someone that was different than you? What questions did you have? What could you have learned by asking those questions? Help my little friends gain answers to those questions they may have.

My students are Pre-Kindergarten students, who are all from low income families.

The majority of my students, or I like to call them, my little friends, come from non-English speaking families. These precious children have had very few early learning experiences, which is why they have earned a placement in my classroom. Each of them are very curious about the world around them, and enjoys learning through exploration.

My Project

Day in and day out, we as adults see people with differing abilities and just understand that everyone is different. We understand that some people have different ways of getting around or communicating with others. However, young children, who have not had experiences with people who are different need to be taught how to react in new situations. My little friends have had very few encounters with people of different backgrounds or abilities. Having access in our classrooms to materials such as books on differing abilities, posters of people with differing abilities and dramatic play materials, that represent differing abilities, will allow my little friends understanding of how other people may move, communicate, and live. These materials can help my little friends see how differences in other people are unique and special.

Help my little friends gain understanding and acceptance of people who might not look, communicate, or move like they do.

Help them to learn that even though we may not all be the same physically, we are all perfectly made.
