Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are longing to take a production of "Eurydice" to our district's One-Act Theater Festival, in which none of them have ever participated. Help me make this dream come true for them, and allow them to enjoy the best learning experience that their high school theater program has to offer
My students are primarily Hispanic, and many of them are the children of immigrants.
Moreover, many of them will be the first in their families to attend college. Most importantly, however, they are excited about drama, and a number of them would like to pursue theater in college and professionally. They are dedicated individuals who have the power to make a great impact in their communities. They come to class daily with great ideas about how to make our program, and the arts in Miami-Dade county, a richer experience for all involved.
My Project
My students and I are currently working on a production of Sarah Ruhl's "Eurydice." This piece will be entered into our districts One Act Theater Festival. This is the first time any of us have ever attended. This is a great opportunity for my students to showcase their hard work and skill in front of hundreds of other students from our schools district. It's also a great way for them to build community and experience what it is truly like to attend a professional theater festival.
The materials we are requesting are a few ladders, shower curtains/rods, and an old fashion water pump. With the help of a little paint, stage magic, and imagination, these materials will be used to create our set for the production. We are creating a very abstract version of the Underworld. Our set is small and portable, since it will be transported to another school for the competition.
My students are already teeming with energy and we just need the “stuff” to make it happen!
This project will help maintain my students’ excitement about theater.
Not only will they be proud of their first one-act submission, but I am confident that this will be something they remember and cherish for years to come. By nurturing their passion for drama, I know that they will continue to seek ways to bring more and more artistic expression to Miami-Dade county as a whole.
