Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is an engineering magnet school. I strive to give students opportunities to learn standards while incorporating the engineering aspect in the daily learning. Snap circuits will help us do that! With snap circuits, students will also be exposed to 3-D items to enhance spatial sense.

My students are primarily fourth grade students at an engineering magnet school.

They are identified as gifted and talented students. They require challenge. Many understand the topics taught in the regular classroom, but they need the opportunity to synthesize and create with that knowledge.

My Project

The resources I will use with my class are electrical snap circuits. Fourth grade students study parallel and series circuits. These kits will provide them with a variety of tasks to create circuits with various conductors and insulators. They will also be able to modify the projects/creations to enable to projects to make sound, create light, run fans, etc. The projects will allow students ample opportunity to use the vocabulary to explain why the circuits work or do not work.

Our school is an engineering magnet school.

Recently, I was told by a high school engineering teacher that the most helpful thing that elementary teachers could do to help the high school program was to give students many opportunities with 3-D models. She stated that many students have difficulties with spatial reasoning. These kits will provide students with an opportunity to foster this ability.
