The students in my classroom are very active six and seven year-olds. They learn best while moving, so having stools that promote movement while being safe is just what they need in order to gain skills to be ready for second grade.
The students in my classroom are fun-loving, eager to learn and eager to be helpful.
As the year progresses, we find that we become a family away from home. A school family that supports and encourages each other to learn and become considerate citizens in our school and in our community.
My Project
To best meet my students' needs, I meet with them in small groups at a table for both language arts and math lessons. The lessons remediate and extend students' learning, whatever their need is. By using the Hokki Stools, the students will be able to wiggle and be safe while learning important first grade skills. When not in small groups, some students who are particularly active may use the Hokki Stools at their desks.
Our classroom will become more supportive of students' need for movement with the availability of Hokki Stools.
Students and their parents will feel respected, because their need for movement will be validated by the use and availability of the Hokki Stools. Students will be eager to work in small groups because they are able to move while learning key grade one skills.
