This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Energy fills the room every day with a classroom filled with students ready to tackle the Common Core standards. We have a variety of learning styles, but every student has a common goal- to reach grade level proficiency by the end of the year! The content is challenging, but not impossible!

As a 6th year teacher, I have taught 3rd-7th grade Math.

Through No Child Left Behind, I have been exposed to different types of lessons focused on supporting student learning to pass benchmark and standardized tests. However, with the transition to Common Core, the purpose of lessons has changed. There is an emphasis on conceptual learning and application of multiple standards at the same time. With little experience, I have been challenged each day to find resources to bring these new standards to life for my students.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad Air 2 with a case and warranty to support my students' learning for the long term. I plan on using the iPad Air 2 to download various applications to support differentiated instruction and help me expand my knowledge in teaching Mathematics. These resources will help me to learn more about collaboration and creation through the use of technology. Specifically, I will learn and study how to implement at least 3 different applications. While resources are limited in the classroom, I want to implement the application, Virtual Manipulatives, to allow students to drag and drop fraction bars to aid in lessons about fractions, decimals, and percents. I also want to implement Knowmania Teach. While this app is for teachers to create short video lessons, I want to teach my students how to use it and create their own lessons for other students to use and learn. Lastly, I want to learn different 3D modeling software for designing projects with virtual manipulatives.

Through your generous donations, my students will have the opportunity to use technology to apply their classroom knowledge to the real world.

The daily use of the iPad Air 2 will allow all of my students to find various applications to meet their unique needs and help them create more concrete applications about the classroom content. This resource will allow me to remediate gaps in classroom knowledge and advance current learning. The possibilities of learning become endless through the iPad!
