Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"My contribution to the world is my ability to draw. I will draw as much as I can for as many people as I can for as long as I can... It lives through magic," Keith Haringonce once said. My project, "Empowering Students Through Art" will help all of my students express themselves through art.
My students are a wonderful bunch that is eager to learn and put forth great effort in class with the materials we currently have.
I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners, which include primary grade levels. I work with students who have autism, students with specific learning disabilities, and speech-language impairments. My students attend an elementary school where close to 70% of our students are English Language Learners and 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
The art supplies will help my students gain a better understanding of math, language arts, & science concepts by integrating them into my lessons. After they finish reading Jack and the Beanstalk, I will provide my students the opportunity to draw while growing their very own bean plant. I will encourage them to draw pictures of the germination stage & growth stage using the markers and Post-it notes. They will store their materials in the pencil bags. My students will gain a better understanding of the life cycle of a bean plant. Throughout this process my students will draw their observations on their paper & will be given an opportunity to evaluate, then draw/label the stages of the life cycle of a plant. They will question why a plant grows more or less in a particular setting, measure their own plant each day, have an opportunity to collaborate, share their creations with their peers, & critique each others work. The paper trimmer will be use to trim papers and display their work.
Please help my students by contributing to paper trimmer, pencil bags, Post-it notes, glue sticks, and markers for our creative art projects.
These resources will help my students learn and appreciate art. With the help of the Lily Sarah Grace fund and other generous donors, my students will develop a love for art and these worthwhile art experiences will help my students become lifelong artist and learners.
