it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Books are powerful. Do you remember books that helped you navigate through life as a child?
There are currently close to 700 students at my school.
They come from varying backgrounds, but most of them come from families who do not have a lot and who live in poverty. We are a public school in Louisiana and are constantly struggling for funding. The kids in my school range in age from 4 years old to 12 years old.
My Project
I'm requesting various books to help me teach my kids about their emotions and how to deal with emotions. Many of the kids at my school have seen role models who do not handle their emotions in effective ways. I am hoping to request these books to help change the course of their lives. Many of them have parents or other family members incarcerated because of bad choices. I want to help my kids see there are better ways to deal with emotions that do not lead to negative consequences.
My project will hopefully help the students in my school realize there are better and different ways to handle their feelings.
They will realize that fighting and cursing are not always the answer. They will be able to handle themselves better, thus they will be better citizens in our nation.
