Do you remember the first video game that you played? Video games weren't prevalent in my childhood, but I do remember getting the chance to play PONG when it was introduced in the early 70's. Children today are raised in a very technological age. Classrooms needs technology to capture students.
I teach in a high poverty school located in a rural county of East Tennessee.
Over 60% of the school's population receives free or reduced lunches. My students need many opportunities to use technology in the classroom. Many will come to first grade with very little, if any, computer experiences. It is my desire to create ample opportunities for learning through technology.
My Project
I am requesting educational software from Lakeshore Learning to use in my classroom. This software will provide ample opportunities for my students to learn new skills in Reading, Language, and Math while "playing" on the computer. Students will review skills such as: alphabet knowledge, phonemic awareness, beginning, middle & ending sounds, rhyming sounds, phonics, building words, positional words, descriptive words, vocabulary, and following directions.
Children today are raised in a very visual world.
The use of technology in the classroom is vital to gaining the students' attention. They will be immersed in a very visual way to learn while "playing."
