My students are 3 to 5 year Olds on the autism spectrum who spend 5 hours a day in school. They are some of the hardest workers you will ever meet!
Many of my students are fascinated by letters but they do not understand how to use them in context through writing.
My students love LETTERS!
They love "Letter Time" at our morning circle and are beginning to learn the proper strokes to form their own letters using the Handwriting Without Tears multi-sensory approach. The use of this program allows me to build on each child's individual strengths while addressing their weaknesses.
My Project
My students need a Build Mat Man Set to help them learn about body awareness. Many of my students have sensory difficulties and struggle with the concept of where their bodies are in relation to the space around them.
My students need Roll-A-Dough Letters and Stamp & See Screens to practice pre writing skills to form letters using dough and wood pieces. These activities will build fine motor strength and give them a foundation for writing before I ever put a pencil in their hands.
My students will use these materials to learn about body awareness, pre writing and pre reading skills, counting and building during morning circle time.
They will receive large group instructing using these materials to build on socializing and sharing skills, as well as, targeted small group instruction to further build on these skills and promote generalization.
