Eager Readers Need A Bushel of Books!

My Students

“There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book.” ― Frank Serafini It is my goal every year that each of my students find their love for reading. It takes persistence, but the outcome is remarkable. Every child can enjoy reading.

Our wonderful students explore the Core Knowledge curriculum at our public, non-profit charter elementary.

Our goal is to create life-long learners with outstanding character and a drive to succeed in all aspects of their lives. Our rigorous school is growing in leaps and bounds, not only in numbers but in strong student achievement. We are currently moving over winter break from our temporary buildings that we have been in for years into a combined elementary (K-4) and middle (5-8) school since the building is finally complete! Located in a military community, 40% of our students come from military families. Thirty percent of our students receive free and reduced price lunches. My students are excited and eager whenever new books are brought into the classroom. I want to keep that excitement alive by providing more options within my classroom.

My Project

Students will have the opportunity to read these books including Inca Empire, Colonial LIfe, and Owl Moon, not only in the classroom, but will be able to bring them home as well. I have a class of varied reading levels, so having all types of books with a variety of topics and reading levels will allow students to find books that interest them and provide students opportunities to become better readers. I make sure to give students plenty of time throughout the day to read books of their choice and I make sure help students find books they are wanting to read if they feel stuck. It is amazing to see students find a series or topic they are ecstatic about, especially when they want to share it with their friends, teacher, and parents!

This donation will provide books for my classroom library that will give my students a broader selection to choose from and make sure there is a book for every child's interest and level.

Not every school subject is enjoyable to every child, but with books, students can use their imagination, explore another time or world, or be drawn into science and history subjects that they did not know they were interested in or just want to learn more about!
