My Students

"How do we use math?" A child answers "the clock shows time and a ruler helps us measure things!" These are just some of the conversations that someone would hear if they walked in my room. We always try to relate thing to the real world to help the children in this rural community understand.

My students are from a rural community with limited resources.

I teach two classes of 25 kids. These kids are not exposed to a variety of different things outside of our community. I have all types of students who like a variety of different things. They all learn differently and require different materials for learning.

My Project

My students need 55 subscriptions to the Scholastic DynaMath magazine. This magazine has real world situations and real world problems that suit the kids' interest. When the children can read about real life situations, it helps make math easier to apply and shows the kids that they really do need math. We will use these magazines in small groups and as an attention grabber each month.

Donations to my project will improve my classroom greatly.

The more real world applications to which we have access, the more that we can relate to real life situations. My students' lives will be enriched with real world math. They will be able to see how and why they need mathematics.
