We have a busy full day of kindergarten. Our day is filled with a variety of learning experiences.
My students are a group of 29 fun-loving kindergartners.
They love to learn about the world around them. They care about each other and love to work and play with their peers. Our school encourages a positive place to learn and play. I stimulate that by giving them time and areas in the classroom to encourage strong peer relationships.
My Project
I have a kitchen dramatic play area, but I want to expand the play-based learning that happens in that area. I try to change that area throughout the year. We have had a weather station and a flower shop. I would like to add a shelf to help house the extra materials needed for this area. I would also like to add a veterinarian office.
This type of play is so important in early education.
Students need time to work on peer relationships as well as listening and speaking skills. Play-based learning not only encourages this but allows them to work on reading and writing skills as well. I envision students reading the vet label cards and writing down their diagnosis. While having fun the students are learning so much!
