My Students

All the students love to come to the Math Lab and do hands-on lessons, but we need more materials to practice making change and telling time.

We are a K-6, Title I school with a diverse student body including students learning English.

All students love to learn, but it is harder for students who are learning a new language. Using manipulatives helps the students understand and keeps them engaged during the lesson.

My Project

My students need Student Gear Clocks, eaching Gear Clock, Money Hands-On Kit, Money Extra Student Pack, Money Flash Cards, and Lakeshore Starter Cash Pack to practice basic math skills. All of the students in K-6 will use the clocks (the clocks are geared and the hour hand moves as the minute hand is moved) and money sets (bills and coins) as I do lessons with them as model effective ways to teach time and money skills. We will learn to tell time and find elapsed time as well. Students will learn to identify coins and their value, and then will progress to making equivalent trades and even making change. Having these materials will give the students the Time to explore Money.

Students that become confident with basic math skills can move on to more complex concepts.

Having clocks and realistic money to practice with will give our students access to the materials needed for hands-on lessons. Math is the gateway to a great career!
